This is the question every operator asks before fitout: should I buy PCs or PS5s? The answer depends on your market, but the numbers tell a clear story.
Upfront hardware cost
A decent gaming PC (RTX 4060, 16GB RAM, 144Hz monitor) runs ₹80,000–₹1,00,000 per seat. A PS5 with a good display costs ₹65,000–₹75,000. PS5 wins on upfront cost — but that's only part of the picture.
Revenue per hour
In most Indian cities, PC seats command ₹40–₹80/hr. PS5 seats typically go for ₹60–₹100/hr because customers perceive console gaming as premium.
But PS5 sessions are shorter. PC gamers — especially those playing MMOs, competitive shooters or grinding ranked — stay for 3–5 hours. Console sessions average 1.5–2.5 hours.
Revenue per seat per day (assuming 8 hours at 50% occupancy): - PC at ₹50/hr: ₹200/day - PS5 at ₹80/hr: ₹320/day
PS5 looks better here — until you factor in game licensing.
Game licensing: the hidden PS5 cost
PC gaming is largely free-to-play or one-time purchase. PS5 requires either game discs (₹4,000–₹5,000 per title, limited copies) or PS Plus subscriptions (₹4,999/yr per console). If you want 15 PS5s each with a solid library, expect to spend ₹75,000–₹1,00,000 on software alone.
Maintenance
PCs break in predictable ways — GPU dies, RAM fails, OS corrupts. All repairable cheaply by any local tech. PS5 repairs require authorized service centers, cost more, and take longer.
PC: easier, cheaper maintenance. PS5: higher downtime risk.
Our verdict
For tier-2 and tier-3 cities: PC-heavy setups with 2–4 PS5 stations as a premium add-on work best. Lower price sensitivity, longer sessions.
For metro gaming cafés: A 60/40 PC-to-PS5 split maximizes revenue. Console players pay premium, PC players stay longer.
Don't go PS5-only unless you're running a dedicated console lounge with a strong walk-in weekend crowd.
